THE THREAT
There comes a moment in every democracy where silence becomes surrender.
And if you’re waiting for your moment—for the one thing so egregious, so antidemocratic, so grotesque that you’ll finally say, “Enough”—you need to decide now what that is.
Despite the apparent chaotic nature of the current Administration, the people dismantling our democracy are not improvising.
They are executing a plan. It’s systematic.
They are counting on our exhaustion. On our disbelief. On our inability to recognize slow destruction because it’s dressed in bureaucracy, chaos, and noise.
This is not just corruption. It’s demolition. On purpose.
For some, it’s the defunding of life-saving government programs.
For others, it’s the quiet disappearance of inconvenient facts.
Or the firing of thousands of essential government workers.
Or the targeting of journalists.
Or the suppressing of the intelligentsia.
Or the criminalization of peaceful protest.
Or the manipulation of voting systems to lock in minority rule.
Or the use of government power to intimidate opponents.
Or the erosion of judicial independence.
Or the invocation of emergency powers without cause.
Or the rewriting of the Constitution itself.
These are not separate events.
They are dominoes. And many have already fallen.
The thing is: when we don’t decide in advance where our red line is, it becomes easier to rationalize each step. To look away. To wait for someone else to act. Like a proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot of water.
If you don’t choose your line, someone else will.
If you’re already convinced and ready to act, you can skip to the bottom of the post for concrete actions. But here is the crux of the issue.
I’m asking you:
Where is your line in the sand?
What is your red line—the moment you say, “Enough”?
The arrest of judges disagreeing with the President? The deportation of American citizens? Military force illegally turned inward? Is it the rewriting of the Constitution itself?
And if we all wait until our personal red line is crossed, there may be no one left standing when yours finally is.
The time to decide is now. Not later. Not someday.
Write it down. Say it out loud. Share it with someone.
Because once it’s crossed, there’s no going back.
For me, it has been the intentional contravening of the provisions of the Constitution, which is the basis for all else in our democracy. Without a functioning and enforceable Constitution, we cannot be guaranteed rule of law, right to habeas corpus, protection from unfair search and seizure, separation of powers, free speech and other rights we take for granted.
WHAT’S AT STAKE
This is the endgame of “Project 2025” and the Article V movement
Right-wing operators are spearheading this well-funded, meticulously planned effort, which has the financial resources of billionaires and influential organizations like the Heritage Foundation. Their objective? To use Republican-controlled state legislatures to call a constitutional convention, which the United States has never done under Article V. They're getting close. For a convention to be called, 34 states must call for it, and 19 states have already registered, and 9 more have applied. In 2018, some states pushing for a convention said their main goal was to enact a balanced budget amendment. But others want to go much farther. The danger is that the Constitution makes very little mention of how such a convention would operate and has no clear legal limits once it starts. Worst case scenario, a small suggestion has the potential to rapidly grow into a comprehensive overhaul of American democracy.
What happens at the convention?
They can rewrite the rules.
They can redefine freedom.
They can codify the merging of the three branches of government into one.
The time to decide is now.
If your red line has already been crossed—welcome. We need you in the fight.
NO to a new US Constitution or new amendments. The risks are simply too great.
But forewarned is forearmed and we can raise awareness now to prevent a conventional in these precarious political times.
WHAT YOU CAN DO (RIGHT NOW)
1. Write down your red line.
Put it on a sticky note. In your phone. On your wall. Know it. Own it. Share it.
2. Learn about the constitutional convention push.
Here’s what’s at stake:
If 34 states petition Congress for an Article V convention, it must be called.
There are no clear legal limits on what can be changed—civil rights, voting rights, even free speech could be redefined.
The movement is well-funded and organized. Most people have never heard of it. That’s their advantage.
3. Read these.
4. Contact your state legislators—especially if you’re in a red or purple state.
Ask where they stand on Article V. Demand transparency. Urge them to reject any resolution calling for a constitutional convention.
5. Join or support watchdog groups:
Organizations like Common Cause, the Brennan Center, and Stand Up America are tracking the push and mobilizing at the state level.
6. Talk about it. Loudly.
This issue gets very little mainstream coverage. Use your voice—online and offline—to raise awareness. Most people won’t act until they know what’s happening.
COMING SOON
My next post will look at some of the evidence, both historical and contemporary, to support the claim that we are headed into an autocracy unless we are prepared to join forces and stop it as soon as we can.
SHARE YOUR WORK
PLEASE SHARE WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR HAVE DONE TO FIGHT THIS! We need a good forum to share ideas and strategies, and work together to battle for our rights.
Quote from Note accompanying the document, “Our goal is to assemble an army of aligned, vetted, trained, and prepared conservatives to go to work on Day One to deconstruct the Administrative State.”
What is your red line? What is an effective way to impede progress to gut the Constitution?
